MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Merry Christmas everyone!!!
Hope you all had a day filled with fun, family, good food, and great company!

Sunday, December 21, 2008

Let the countdown begin...

4 Days until Christmas!

Can you believe it? Only 4 days until Christmas? YIKES!!! Hope everyone has most of their shopping done by now! Trust me you do not want to be out shopping right now. It's CRAZY!!! Parking is worse than shopping. You have those crazy people that want to fight over a spot or race you to get that good parking spot. If you are going out go early. Trust me it gets worse as the day goes on.

5 Days until my bday!

Yes! 5 days and I will be 23. Wow! I'm getting old! :) lol jk This year I will be working on my bday. :( Oh well. You kinda expect it when you work retail. I get off at 6 though and then I'm driving to either Arkansas or Dallas. Not sure which one yet but its looking like Dallas. I will be there for the weekend with my parents. Either place it will be lots of fun! Well I'm off to work. Get to shopping!!!

Peanut Butter Emporium...

Peanut Butter Emporium is the best! They make peanut butter, fudge, gift baskets, and on top of that they have a restaurant where they serve all of those and deliver to area businesses and schools. One of the best things they make besides the peanut butter is their famous peanut butter pie! mmm Inside the restaurant they have a display of the history of peanut butter and all kinds of peanut or peanut butter related items. When I graduated high school one of my first jobs was working here. I made the peanut butter, fudge, and peanut butter pie. BTW those are secret recipes so don't try and ask for them. :) I found out the other night that there was a fire at PBE. The restaurant and cleaners they owned next door were burned completely. Also the owners lived above PBE and they have lost their house and all of there possessions. It is sad to see this happen to PBE but especially to the family because they have lost everything and now have nothing. I hope that one day they will be able to open PBE again so that people can go back and enjoy lots more peanut butter!

Check these out!

I love it when I find a neat blog or web site. Here are a few that I have found and love to read!

The first one is called $5 Dollar Dinners. This lady posts every day a recipe that only costs $5 dollars to make. She also has some good tips and ideas!

The next one is called A year of CrockPotting. This lady is cooking something in her CrockPot every day this year. She mostly does food items but she has done some other fun things as well! Her latest thing to make was Christmas ornaments using her CrockPot. Very neat!

The last one is called Free 2 Be Frugal. She has frugal ideas and will post about free items that you can get. I have just started reading this blog but so far it looks like she has great ideas and some frugal tips!

To view any of these blogs just click on the link and it will take you there. Enjoy!

Let it snow...

Well winter is here! Yesterday we had the first snow of the season. Temps were in the 30's for a high and the low was 19!!! The wind was very strong making it seem even colder. During the day it got colder and colder and rain, sleet, and snow starting falling from the sky. When I left work at 6 the parking lot was covered in a white dusting of snow and my car had a layer of ice. Now that I work up north in the city I have a longer drive home and the weather also tends to be a lil worse up where I work. Going home was fun on icy bridges and driving on the road with people that didn't realize how bad it could be. Oh well..I made it home safe and sound and made myself a warm cup of hot chocolate! mmm The weather men here are predicting even more of this fun weather on Mon and Tues of this next week. They are saying it will be worse than what we had yesterday. Great that is not what I wanted to hear. I hate driving on the icy roads. lol Guess I need to move back to TX so I won't have to! Hope everyone is having a great week! Stay warm!!! :)

Work...

Hope everyone is having a good week. Can you believe Thanksgiving is less than a week away? WOW! Time has flown by! Before we know it will be Christmas. :)

Yesterday I was finishing some things up at work and I had a customer come in to my dept. Like normal I went and said hi and asked if they needed anything and like usual the answer was no. Now this person was very tall and athletic looking. He also wore a Adidas wind breaker with a tiny logo on the front. I went on with what I was doing and the phone rang. I answered it and it was an employee from the west store(yes this there are two stores. One for women's and one for men's, children's, home, and furniture) she asked me if there was a tall athletic looking guy shopping and I said yes. She went on to say that he was a pro basketball player(that explains the logo) and that everyone was saying he was cute and that she just had to come down the the east store to see him. I tried not to laugh but she was pretty fun getting all excited about this. Well turns out this guy is a pro basketball player for the New Orleans Hornets. His name is Morris Peterson. Click here to read his stats, bio, and to see a pic. I have to say this guy was VERY nice and acted like a gentleman. It was fun for me too cause now I can say that I have seen him in person and sold him clothes! :) Ahh just one of the perks that comes with working at a fancy mall in a big city! I have heard that famous people come into this mall all the time so there is no telling who I will see/meet next! I will just have to wait and see...

Welcome...

This cute baby here belongs to my cousin Bill and his wife Amy. This is Benjamin Richard 9lbs 14oz born on November 7th. Very cute little boy!

Update...

Well it has been a while since I last posted. Work is going well. It is different having to drive longer to get to work and also being in rush hour traffic! Just something to get used to with living in a bigger city. :) The people at Penn Square are for the most part friendly. There are some that can be snitty but those people are everywhere. The past few weeks here there has been some wonderful fall weather. It's cool and crisp and the leaves are starting to change colors! Next thing you know it will be Christmas! :) I know how dare I say that word before Thanksgiving! Just think of it as your early reminder to go Christmas shopping early! Hope everyone is having a great week!

News...

Well it has been a while since I have posted so I have lots to share! I will start with the bad news...

Bad news...

Found out this past tuesday that our store is closing. Everyone was surprised and we are still in shock! We all knew it would one day soon but not this soon. They had just told us we were going to be a clearance store well not anymore. December 29 will be the last day its open. Everyone had to fill out transfer papers and most of us will be transfered and some will be fired or let go as they say. The first 20 to be transfered were to be moved my sun(yesterday).

Good news...

I was off this past thursday through today. I got a txt from a friend of mine asking me if I had gotten a phone call about being transfered and no I hadn't. Well people at work were saying I had gotten transfered so I called up to talk to the store manager and guess what? I had! I have been transfered to the REALLY fancy REALLY nice REALLY rich mall! WOW!!! I'm now working at penn square mall up on the north side of town. Takes about 20 mins to get there so not too bad. I went in this morning for training and everyone was nice. I will still be in men's. I'm happy that I have a job and I hope it goes well!

Hope everyone had a great weekend.

Update on job...

If you did not read my last post read it before reading this one. It will make more sense...

This morning I went in to work for a few hours to help with transfers on my day off. We got a lot in but the customers love it cause its cheap! At our morning meeting we got some more info on the store and what is going on and what to expect. Starting in November the new store hours are supposed to start. Yesterday they had said M-S 11-7 and Sun 1-5. Today they said Sun was 12-6 so not sure yet about that. Also in the next few weeks we will find out who stays and who gets to go. In the end when everyone is moved we will only have 30 associates working and 3 managers(dock manager and 2 ASM's) and then the store manager will stay. Also if we stay there will be no SPH(sales per hour) goal and our pay rate won't change. We will get a review and if we are making our SPH or above it then we will get a raise and if we are not making it or below it we will just stay at the same rate. This is good news. Yesterday there were rumors going around that if you stayed you would be a minimum wage because it is cheaper for the store that way. Starting today all of our shoes and winter coats are being packed up and shipped to other stores. They are slowly going to start packing stuff up. It's weird though to go up to Ladies shoes and there is NOTHING there now. I'm sure all the customers are going to be asking questions now. Well that is the latest news. I will keep you updated!

Update...

Hope everyone is having a good week. So far my week has been pretty good. It is kinda weird though. I worked sun and mon and then was off tues and I worked today and then will work again fri. So I have thurs and the weekend off. I'm enjoying though! :) Now for the latest news...

I showed up to work this morning like usual(I'm always early, I HATE being late). I pulled in and thought man there are a lot of cars here and people walking in early but thought well I guess they decided to come in early. I go in and was waiting a few mins before I clocked in and then we got the page to head up to Ladies shoes for our morning meeting. Very unusual that it was early so anyway I head up there. I'm sitting there waiting for it to start and I notice that all the dock people are there and the women that work in alterations were there as well. That was weird too. They never come to the meetings. hmmm The meeting starts(we all know what they are going to say but we still listen) and the store manager says I hate the be the one to say this BUT this store is now going to be a clearance store. Ok we are kinda shocked that it came this early because we were thinking right after Christmas and before inventory they would do this. haha We were wrong! He continued to tell us that the store would go down to about 25% staff and the rest would move to other stores. Also we will no longer get in any new stuff and all of our trucks have been cancelled including the two this week. When they make this switch(we don't know exactly when. Could be 2 weeks or could be 3 months) the stores hours will change to mon-sat 11-7 and sun 1-5. Kinda weird hours but good thing about that is if I stay I can sleep in...YAY :)...and on Sunday I can find a Church to go to and start going! Now I don't know if I will stay or go but either way I didn't see myself staying with this company much longer anyway. Rumours are going around that if you stay your pay will be dropped and it will basically be like hell working at the store, the extra managers(they are keeping our store manager and 2 ASM) will have no choice but to leave or go back to the sales floor and work, and then it was cosmetics and fragrance will be the first to go and then you hear oh nope it will stay through Christmas. Basically we don't know much and probably never will until it happens. We are just along for a crazy ride! I am curious to see what all happens though. That is the latest news from me. When I know more I will post and let you know!

Pictures...

This is me taking a pic by the land in Arkansas

The land from the house next to it

Slab for a house being built accross from the land

Front of the house by the land

The land again

Mom and Dad in the land

Mom is at one side of the land and I'm at the other.

Timber...

Timber... Makes you think of a tree falling right? Well it wasn't a tree this time. It was me. Yes I fell today at work. I was walking by the register and I triped on a box that was there and fell flat on the floor front side down. OUCH!!! I'm fine just sore and hurt a little. I'm up late waiting for my parents to get here. I'm sure we will have lots of fun while they are here! Also they are bringing the conector for the camera to the computer so I should have some pics up soon! Well I just got a txt that they are close! Hope everyone has a great weekend and I will post pics as soon as I can.

Cool things...

Yes cool things is my title. Today I found several cool things....
  • I am now the proud owner of a Coach purse!!! Yes I am and the best part is I got it for $15.00! Now I know some of you are thinking what?? Can't be...well it's true and yes it is a real Coach purse not a fake one and yes the cost was $15.00. Now that was after the 75% off of the original price and then 40% off of that and then my 25% off discount from where I work. :) I'm very happy about this cool find!
  • The other cool find today was gas under $3.00 a gallon! WOW I have not seen that in a very long time. I have been watching it slowly drop a little each week and today driving home from work I saw it...$2.99 a gallon. Now it could go right back up but for now I will take it! :)

Tomorrow evening my parents are driving in from Texas for a visit! I'm very excited about this. I know my grandparents are happy too. I hope that on Sat we can have a little time to go and have some fun but we will have to wait and see. Well I'm off to go watch the debate. Hope everyone is having a good week!

Sick again...

This past weekend I had some kind of stomach virus or flu. Lets just say it was not fun! Started about 1am on Sunday morning. I only got sick once(thankfully) but I had fever and just felt bad for a few days. I'm still having some not feeling too good moments but from where I was I'm much better! :) Funny thing with my job though..I get sick days. Cool! Well turns out to use these days you have to call in twice(in a row) that your sick. Sometimes you might need a drs. note but not all the time. Well I'm thinking ok I will get paid or get to use two of my sick days since I was sick and called in two days from work. haha No. You start getting a sick day until you call in the second day. So since I called in two days sick I only get paid one day for being sick two days. Does not make any sense but a lot of the things where I work don't make sense. Oh well. In the future maybe I should take a extra day when I'm sick...lol jk :) Well I just wanted to post and say hi! I'm off to finish watching dancing with the stars.

My new pet...

Well I have a new pet!! Some of you(like my parents) may be thinking she has a pet?? I hope not. :) Well fear not this is not just any pet. Its a very tiny, cute, loud pet. One that I did not choose to have or get. Let me explain. The other night I was sitting in my bed on my computer and I had my window open a little bit because it was so nice outside. I'm sitting there and I kept hearing this VERY loud chirping noise. I thought ahhh must be a cricket outside singing about the nice weather. I continued on and thought it would stop. It didn't. Later I got up and was getting ready for bed and I went in my bathroom and I thought man it sounds like that noise is coming from in here. Well what do you know it was. It was a tiny tiny tiny baby cricket in my tub. As soon as I peaked in on it it got quiet. lol When I left to go to bed it started singing again. It's still in my apt but not in my tub guess it didn't want to take a shower. lol Hope everyone had a good weekend!

Update...

Hope everyone has had a good weekend. Mine was good. Yesterday morning got up early and went to credit university!!! Yay! It was SO much fun....NOT! Some of you may be wondering what is credit university? Well the company I work for wants us to get credit apps and when we don't we get to wake up WAY too early on a Sat morning and go to class for an hour on how to get apps and get asked why we don't ask the customers(cause they have one. DUH!) lol Yesterday though we got to skip all that and the deathly boring credit video(that they show time after time after time) and we watched how to do a RSVS order. Basiclly how to order something for the customer. The people who did this video were not prepared and were VERY funny. lol The main person's name was cyd....YES cyd and it was a girl. Once we watched that we were out of there and off to Cick-fil-A! mmmm Got some Chick-n-Minis. Very good! :) Today I worked and it wasn't too bad. We were short staffed so it kept us busy and made the day go by faster. Tomorrow morning I go in again very early. This time to go do markdowns. In my store the third floor is closing. It is all home and furniture stuff. There are some pretty good sales up there but nothing is at that REALLY great price yet. After tomorrow I get a day off to rest and get ready for the rest of the week! Hope everyone has a good week!

Surprise!

Yes you may be wondering what the surprise is. Well it's not a surprise for my blog readers it was a surprise for me and not a very good one. Let me share.. Yesterday I got ready for work and was walking to get my shoes from the front door and noticed that my carpet was kinda squishy. I thought that was kinda weird so I looked and saw a few tiny wet spots from where I had been so I looked up at the ceiling to see if something was leaking but no. So I continued to go get my shoes and what did I step in? Water!!! Not just a little pool of water but close to a flood(ok not really but it was a lot). I began to look around and see what area of the carpet was wet and where this flood was coming from. Turns out my hall closet was leaking water and then my bathroom/hall closet was also leaking water. Now in between these two closets is my air conditioner and hot water heater. I called the apt people and asked them to send maintenance out. The guy came out and torn out my hall closet's wall(yes he literally tore it out) and all this time he says oh its just the air conditioner and I was thinking hmmm that's weird cause I remember when I stepped in the flood and it was warm. Anyway he goes on and get the wall torn apart and goes oh it the water heater. It busted. Great! Now instead of a flood I have my own hot tub all in the comfort of my own apt. :) lol not really. Anyway he tells me he is going to send the carpet guy out to wet vac it and dry it and then they will put it back down on Monday. Good news is I did not drown in my own flood/hot tub and the bad news is parts of my carpet got soaked. Thankfully it wasn't worse and I'm glad I caught it in time. I can just imagine coming home after a long day at work and walking in to the apt and then splash in the hot water. YUCK! I just hope now that the carpet and the carpet pat dry out and mold doesn't start to grow. ewwww! Well that's all the excitement going on here....later :)

Update...

This past Thursday the Oklahoma State Fair started. On Thursday you could get in for $1.00! Not bad! Of course once you get in you spend who knows how much for the rides, the food(that went up once again), and the things you want to buy. My favorite part of going to a fair is looking at all the exhibits and companies that come out to show you their stuff. I also LOVE freebies! :) The company I work for usually has each of their stores go to the local fair that is going on. Well this year that didn't happen. The company decided to update the computer system and since they wanted to do that before the holiday rush they decided to do it this summer. Well come to find out the new system some way doesn't transmit to the fair. I guess some technical thing. I don't know. I do know that the company is going to lose millions of dollars. OUCH!! I'm sure by next year they have a plan for going to the fair. Then again maybe not. Also not only are they losing this money but each store is getting flat bed after flat bed of fair stuff that they would normally take out and use/sell. Well you may be wondering what are they going to do with it all? Ahhhh..bring the fair inside! Our store is having a party/inside fair on the second floor and they have freebies, popcorn, pretzels, music, balloons and all that fun stuff. So far I think our store's inside fair is doing pretty good. They had an increase in sales yesterday so well see. Hope everyone has had a good week!

Crash...

Today has been a good day. I'm off this weekend and so I ws able to just chill today! Earlier this week I was talking to my parents and my mom was telling me what happened to them. Let me give some background info... My parents live in a small town in TX and on their street is 4 houses. Their house has a fence around it but they park outside of the fence(nothing ever happens). We have 3 dogs(one with very little brain cells and WAY too much energy) and a cat that guard the house. Ok so here is the story... The other morning my mom got in her car to go to work and noticed that on my dad's car his back fender looked weird. She got out to see what was up with it and saw that someone had ran into the back of my dad's car and hit it. My dad had already gone to work so she called him and told him the bad news and told him he should probably come home and call the police and insurance. She went on to work and then later came home for lunch and met dad and the police at home. When she got there they noticed that her front bumper was also messed up. The person that hit my dad's car hit it so hard that it ran into my mom's car and bounced back. My mom's car is in the shop and they will have to fix the bumber and we are praying that nothing else is wrong under the hood. For my dad's car that was just over a year old it will most likely be totaled. We will find out monday. The good news is that my parent's were not hurt! Tried to get the pics after the post but didn't work so as you can see my dad's car is not in good shape at all. Hope everyone has a great weekend!

OKC NBA...

If you are in OKC or you watch sports you probably know that OKC has an NBA team now. The other day they revealed the team name, logo and colors. We are the OKC Thunder! Go thunder!!! lol I think they could have picked a better name but it will work. I work at a major dept store and when the NBA confirmed that we would be getting the team within a few weeks we had the shirts and hats in stock. Now these did not have the team name or colors. It was just your plain black shirt and white letters. We had a few people come buy some but most are still there. Well today we were supposed to get our hot off the press OKC Thunder shirts, polo's, and hats in at 8 this morning. Now remember these are hot off the press so that means we had to price these items as well. Fun times! haha Now these items that were supposed to be at the store at 8 didn't arrive until 2:30 this afternoon. Yep a little late. We quickly started hanging them up and sticking the price tags on them. I was surprised that we actually had people stop and look at these and yes we even sold some. Here are some links of the Thunder gear we got in.

There are a few of the items we got in. GO OKC THUNDER!!! :)

Trip to Arkansas...

I know I said I would give details of the trip yesterday but I worked and then came home and just chilled. Also I was going to share pics with this but I can't find my plug for the camera to the computer so pics will have to wait. I will start with Friday afternoon...

Friday I worked until 1:30 then came home and packed really fast so I could get on the road before it got too late. I packed my car up and went to get money from the bank and fill up my gas tank. Then I hit the road(well actually I hit something else...). This is my first trip going somewhere other than home all alone. It was kinda cool but being new to the OKC area I was not too familar with all the highways. That being said I got lost leaving OKC. So I'm driving along(with no map) and I'm lost...hmm what do I do? I call my dad and he gets on google and looks it up for me. Didn't take long until I was on the right highway and headed toward Arkansas! I'm driving along traffic wasn't too bad for a Friday but it wasn't light either. Well I'm behind a hummer and you know they are tall and can easily go over things. Anyway we are driving along and they go over this thing and when they do I realize what it is. A BIG tire from a semi truck. Well I drive a ford escort that is low to the ground so I have no choice but to just run over it. BAM! Yep I made it over. Thankfully the car is fine and is still running. lol Nothing like a little excitment to get the trip started! Anyway 4 hours later I was in Arkansas. Now all I had to do was find Town center. So I drove a little and then I asken in Walgreens. I finally made it to Vacation Rentals. I went in and got the keys and directions to the duplex/house for the weekend. I read the directions and wrote them down so it would be easier for me to read. Well so I follow the directions and go to Trafalgar road. Now this road is full of curves and long, tall hills well I guess it would be mountains. The speed limit is 30 miles an hours...very slow but seems fast when your going down the mountain..lol. I have to say I'm very good with directions and maps but this time I wasn't. I blame it on being late at night and I was tired. I drove on this Trafalgar road up and down 4 times and still couldn't find the street to turn on. I had had enough and was starving so I drove down to Dairy Queen. MMMMM I had a wonderful chicken strip basket. Then I head back to Trafalgar road and go up and down it again and still didn't find the road so I tried one more time and YAY! I found it!! So I go down that road and down another and then there it is...the duplex! It was very nice. Two bedrooms and baths and a nice living and kitchen area. I got settled in and unpacked and then I waited until my parents arrived at 2:30 am Saturday morning. We talked for a few mins and then we all crashed into bed.

Saturday morning we got up and my parents drank their coffee out on the deck and enjoyed the wonderful view. We hung out for a little bit and got dressed and then went to find a place for breakfast. We decided to go back in town to Bentonville, Ar to eat at Panera Bread. They have a wonderful breakfast!! We were too late though for breakfast there so we went down to IHOP. MMM After breakfast we did some errands and then went to find the land. We took several pics and walked around for a while. That evening we met some friends for dinner. We went to a place called Fred's Hickory Inn. It was a nice place. On Friday and Saturday they have a guy that plays guitar and sings and so we were able to sit and listen to him. He was very good and the food was great! After dinner we went back and went to bed.

Sunday morning we slept in and then got up and packed our bags(so sad we had to leave) then went to check out. After we turned our keys back in we drove to the Metfield clubhouse. They have a wonderful breakfast buffet there and the rooms have a great view of the mountains and golf course. We stuffed ourselves full then tood another trip to take a few more pics of the land. After that we all headed home. We had a great time and are looking forward to going back very soon for another visit! I do have some pics that I will post later.

One more day...

Today was another fun day at work! lol Just kidding. Work was very long today. No customers and we didn't get our stock in until later in the day. We did get some exciting stock in though! You may wonder what could possibly be exicting??? Well that would be more Ed Hardy and Affliction shirts! For those of you that don't know these are VERY popular shirts. They also have jeans and hats but our store just has the shirts so far. Not only are they so popular they start out at about 70.00 dollars each! OUCH! Now for those people that choose not to pay the 70+ they simply walk in and walk out with shirts aka steal them. Now they may take 1 or 2 or our latest person took 14! Yes 14 shirts! Now some people I'm sure are wondering how in the world do they keep stealing these? Well let me tell you...We sensor each and every one of these things(well until today but more on that later) and they are where you can see them so the people know they are there. Anyway the reason why they keep getting away is because where I work they thought the best place for these shirts is by the door. Yes people right by the door! All these people have to do is walk in and walk right back out. Yes we have security but most have cars waiting for them and are gone before you know it. Now today when we got more of these shirts in we sensored about half and then ran out of sensors. We asked our manager what he wanted us to do and he said go ahead and put them out because they are going to get stolen any way. We went ahead and put them out but seems to me it would be better to keep them in the back and wait. Guess not.

Well tomorrow I leave to go to Arkansas. Yay!!! I can't wait. I need a mini vacation. Right now I'm working on finishing washing and drying everything I need to take and then I'm off to pack my bags. I'm going to try and get to bed early because I have to get up extra early tomorrow because we are getting transfers in at our store. That is going to be SO much fun...not. This will be my last post until I get back so have a good weekend and I will post when I'm back!

Being sick is no fun...

Well for about the past week I have had a sore throat and just felt bad. It takes a lot to get me to go to the doctor but on Friday when I still wasn't feeling any better I went. Shocking!!! :) I went to one of those emergency clinic's and I waited maybe 5 mins before going back to a room. The nurse did all that fun stuff...temp, blood pressure, pulse, do you do this and do you do that. Of course I'm the perfect lil angle so it didn't take her long before she left. :) Next the doctor comes in and she is very nice. She looks in my ears and in my mouth(say ahhhh) and then she wants to do a throat swab. Now most people that know me happen to know that I gag very easily so I'm sitting there waiting for the nurse to come swab my throat. I start praying that I don't gag too bad and then.... Anyway she came in and did it and yes I survived! 10 mins later in comes the doctor with the verdict. Drum roll please.....I have an upper respatory infection AND tonsillitis. YUCK!!! She gave me two prescriptions for some get well drugs. My antibiotic is a HUGE horse pill. Takes lots of water to get that one done! Then my other med is a nice med size pill that goes down just fine. I have to takes both of these twice a day for 10 days. It has been 3 days since I started taking them and I already feel lots better!

I'm looking forward to this weekend. I will have sat, sun, and mon off from work! It has been a while since I have had a weekend off so I'm excited! Also not only am I off but I will have a mini vacation in Bella Vista, Arkansas I leave fri afternoon for the long 4 hour drive there to get the key to a house that my family and I will stay in. We did this back when I was younger and it was lots of fun! I will try and take pics of our trip and post some here.

Well it is now 11pm and I stayed up WAY to late last night so I'm going to bed early. Have a great week everyone!
